What started out as an odd job for Marlin Oler turned into a full-time business he has been doing for almost 50 years. He was farming and working nights in a factory when a fellow farmer asked him to build a fence. Soon he was making more money building fence than working in the factory. And the rest, as Marlin says, is history.
Oler's builds all types of fence, much of it on site, and installs it all over the Tri-state. Commericial chain link fence is what we build most. We have a large inventory of fence parts. We build our own gates for chain link fences and keep a full-time welder on staff. The company puts up a lot of fences around schools and athletic facilities. With a grin, Marlin notes that the first chain link fence he ever installed still stands near the football field at Northeaster High School.
We do about half of our business in the commercial sector and half residential. Lately we have done a number of ornamental fences, some with elegant and extravagant gates and security features.
While building fences is Oler's main business, we are a swimming pool and spa supply store. We also sell and install dog kennels, masonry columns and vinyl decking.
The company employs 10-12 people including one of Marlin's daughters and one of his granddaughters.
When you visit Oler's you will notice that there is a lot going on. Seventy-two year old Marlin will be in the middle of it all...he says he'll think about retirement when he is older.
